The AgeShift Network – Ageing in Changing Societiesis an initiative of the University of Bucharest, carried out within the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB). The project aims to strengthen and expand research networks in the field of social gerontology – the study of aging processes and their social, economic, and psychological implications.
Through its activities, the project seeks to develop an interdisciplinary academic community dedicated to the study of aging, focusing on topics such as the transition from employment to retirement, the social participation of older adults, and loneliness in later life.
At the same time, the initiative aims to promote the internationalization of Romanian research by supporting academic mobility, research visits, participation in conferences, and collaborations with foreign research institutions. These activities foster long-term connections among researchers and contribute to the creation of a strong network of expertise in the field of aging studies.
Through its outcomes – online networking platforms, scientific publications, workshops, and dedicated training courses – the project contributes to strengthening the institutional capacity of the University of Bucharest and to the sustainable development of research in gerontology in Romania.
